International Arbitration Law and Practice in Switzerland
This book expounds the theory of international arbitration law. It explains in easily accessible terms all the fundamentals of arbitration, from separability of the arbitration agreement to competence-competence over procedural autonomy, finality of the award, and many other concepts. It does so with a focus on international arbitration law and jurisprudence in Switzerland, a global leader in the field. With a broader reach than a commentary of Chapter 12 of the Swiss Private International Law Act, the discussion contains numerous references to comparative law and its developments in addition to an extensive review of the practice of international tribunals. Written by two well-known specialists - Professor Kaufmann-Kohler being one of the leading arbitrators worldwide and Professor Rigozzi one of the foremost experts in sports arbitration - the work reflects many years of experience in managing arbitral proceedings involving commercial, investment, and sports disputes. This expertise is the basis for the solutions proposed to resolve the many practical issues that may arise in the course of an arbitration. It also informs the discussion of the arbitration rules addressed in the book, from the ICC Arbitration Rules to the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration, the CAS Code, and the UNCITRAL Rules. While the book covers commercial and sports arbitrations primarily, it also applies to investment arbitrations conducted under rules other than the ICSID framework.
French Administrative Law
This new edition of the leading English-language text in its field offers a complete and current overview of droit administratif, which is regarded (alongside the Napoleonic Code) as the most notable achievement of French legal science. The book includes eleven expanded appendices--with statistics, model pleadings, and other illustrations--and will prove an invaluable source for information on the courts, their procedures, and their case-loads. The approach throughout the volume is comparative, with many references to developments in UK common law and in the EC institutions.

Learning for Sustainability in Times of Accelerating Change
We live in turbulent times, our world is changing at accelerating speed. Information is everywhere, but wisdom appears in short supply when trying to address key inter-related challenges of our time such as; runaway climate change, the loss of biodiversity, the depletion of natural resources, the on-going homogenization of culture, and rising inequity. Living in such times has implications for education and learning. This book explores the possibilities of designing and facilitating learning-based change and transitions towards sustainability. In 31 chapters contributors from across the world discuss (re)emerging forms of learning that not only assist in breaking down unsustainable routines, forms of governance, production and consumption, but also can help create ones that are more sustainable. The book has been divided into three parts: re-orienting science and society, re-connecting people and planet and re-imagining education and learning. This is essential reading for educators, educational designers, change agents, researchers, students, policy makers and entrepreneurs alike, who are concerned about the well-being of the planet and convinced of our ability to do better.
The Cosmographia of Sebastian M nster
Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia was an immensely influential book that attempted to describe the entire world across all of human history and analyse its constituent elements of geography, history, ethnography, zoology and botany. Through this examination of Münster, his publications and scholarly networks, the conflicts and continuities between medieval scholarly traditions and the widening horizons of the sixteenth century are explored and revealed. Of interest to scholars of humanist culture, the Reformation and book history, this ambitious work throws into relief previously overlooked aspects of the intellectual and religious culture of the time.
Parliament and Parliamentarism
Parliamentary theory, practices, discourses, and institutions constitute a distinctively European contribution to modern politics. Taking a broad historical perspective, this cross-disciplinary, innovative, and rigorous collection locates the essence of parliamentarism in four key aspects-deliberation, representation, responsibility, and sovereignty-and explores the different ways in which they have been contested, reshaped, and implemented in a series of representative national and regional case studies. As one of the first comparative studies in conceptual history, this volume focuses on debates about the nature of parliament and parliamentarism within and across different European countries, representative institutions, and genres of political discourse.

William E Kovacic an Antitrust Tribute
This Liber Amicorum was launched on the occasion of Professor William E. Kovacic's retirement from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission where he served as Commissioner from January 2006 to October 2011, as the Chairman from March 2008 to March 2009, and as a General Counsel from 2001 through 2004. This Volume I pays tribute to William Kovacic's work as a professor, public official and "international entrepreneur," which has tremendously contributed to the development of the U.S. and international antitrust law. This first volume includes 31 contributions by his colleagues and friends mainly from the United States, and it is divided into two sections. Part I, entitled "An Antitrust Career," contains 10 articles that offer an original as well as enthralling picture of Kovacic as professor, lawyer, unconventional thinker and innovator of antitrust law. Part II, entitled "New Frontiers of Antitrust," consists of 21 articles covering different aspects of competition law, ranging from cartels to mergers analysis, private rights of action, antitrust settlements, etc. The overall result is a collective work that offers the opportunity to look over the antitrust world not only as a "cold" field of law, but also as a lively discipline to whose growth Professor Kovacic has contributed so much.
